Campus Tour Video/Vlog
Campus Tour Video/Vlog
Chances are your marketing and communications office already have a lot of campus videos available. But if you or a department on campus would like to create additional tour videos, follow these instructions:
Tech needed:
- Required:
- Smartphone with lots of storage available
- Rode smartLav+ mic
- 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer
To create your video/vlog, follow these steps:
- Identify the area of campus that’s being recording and who will host this video. If this is a vlog, select the host, topic, and which community this will be posted in.
- These videos are considered a vlog so hosts should be comfortable on camera, easy to understand, and knowledgeable about the area they’re touring.
- Set up your camera, gimbal, and mic
- Make sure to practice recording audio with the mic as well as using the stabilizer a few times before recording. There may be a special trick to recording audio (lots of external mics need to be plugged in before you press record).
- This is also a great time to map out the path your tour will take and practice the script a few times. If you can manage to shoot the video in one take, it will cut down on any editing time and make posting much easier, too.
- Record your video
- When recording on the smartphone, make sure that it is sourcing audio from the external microphone. Most people will put up with only OK video but will not watch a video with poor quality audio.
- Since this will be a vlog style video, it’s important to use a stabilizer. It can become distracting and even leave some viewers with motion sickness if the video is too shaky.
- Follow steps 5-8 of the “Recorded Webinar/Masterclass/Info Session” section of this document to make any final edits, post to YouTube, and embed your video in your Wisr community.
